The winningest beach volleyball player of all-time volleyball legend Karch Kiraly announced yesterday that this next 2007 AVP season will be his last. He will play in 11 of 18 events this year on the AVP Crocs Tour.

Karch has played professional beach volleyball for 28 years and won 2 gold medals indoor in 1984 and 1988 and one on the beach in 1996.

He has won 148 tournament titles and won over $3 million in prize money. His volleyball credentials are unmatched by any other player in the sport.

Karch said yesterday, "As I begin my 28th season in professional beach volleyball I have reached that point where it is time for me to move on to a new phase in my career in this great sport. This is definitely not a retirement from volleyball in any way, but rather a shift in my focus to give something back to the sport and do what I can to grow the game of volleyball in the U.S. and around the globe."

In Karch's new endeavors he will be launching the Karch Kiraly Volleyball Academy.

Two camps will be held this summer with one at the American Sports Centers, the current training home of the U. S. Men's National Team, in Anaheim, California, July 15-20 and a second camp held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia, July 29-August 3. Each five-day camp will be limited to 64 high school girls.

Karch has an all-star coaching staff including Mike Dodd, Liz Masakayan, Bill Neville, Kim Oden, Angela Rock, Eric Sato, Troy Tanner and Steve Timmons. This high caliber academy is inviting girls 13-17. The student to instructor ratio will be an unprecedented 8 to 1.

This camp offers some of highest level of volleyball experience ever put in one gym. For more information about the academy go to: www.karchacademy.com
